Once built, each crate measures 600mm (L) × 600mm (W) × 360mm (H) and is designed as a single-layer solution for shallow installations. Each crate provides a 95% void ratio and 123 litres of storage, with eight units forming a 1m³ soakaway. The system offers a 65 t/m² vertical load capacity, making it suitable for high-load applications including residential developments, commercial sites and infrastructure projects. Crates do not require structural clips; cable ties can be used to hold them in place until the side fill is introduced. All external faces must be wrapped in non-woven geotextile membrane to prevent soil ingress and maintain long-term performance. Rainwater is fed in by butting the stormwater pipe against the crate. Lay the membrane first, cut a small cross at the pipe entry point, fold back, insert the pipe and secure the membrane tightly around it. A weak concrete mix can be added for extra stability if required. Using a pre-filter such as our SiltGuard Silt Trap is recommended to help reduce silt entering the system and extend its working life.
