FAQs

What is the difference between gloss and other finishes?

Gloss finishes offer a smooth, reflective surface that makes colors appear more vibrant and can enhance detail. Other finishes like matte or luster have different surface textures and reflectivity.

Can I use this paper with my laser printer?

No, this paper is specifically designed for inkjet printers and will not work with laser printers.

How water-resistant is this paper?

The paper has a high degree of water resistance due to its UV-protected microporous supercoat, but it is not fully waterproof. Prolonged exposure to moisture should still be avoided.

What does '271gsm' mean?

gsm stands for grams per square meter, which is a measure of the paper's weight and thickness. 271gsm indicates a heavyweight, high-quality paper.

Is this paper archival quality?

While the paper offers good fade resistance thanks to its UV protection, for true archival longevity, prints should be stored properly and protected from light and environmental exposure.

Can I get this paper in other sizes or quantities?

Yes, PermaJet offers this Gloss 271 paper in various sizes (like A4, A3, A3+) and pack quantities. Please refer to the product listings for available options.

What is the benefit of the 'bright white base'?

A bright white base provides a cleaner background for your images, improving contrast and making colors appear more vivid and accurate compared to papers with a warmer or off-white base.

Troubleshooting

Prints are smudged or ink is not drying instantly.

Verify that your printer's settings are correctly selected for a high-gloss or photo paper type. Ensure you are using compatible dye or pigment inks. Check that the paper's 'Instant Dry' coating is not compromised.

Colors appear dull or inaccurate.

Ensure you are using the correct ICC profile for your printer and ink combination with this paper. Re-calibrate your monitor for accurate color representation. Check printer quality settings for the highest possible output.

Paper is jamming or feeding poorly through the printer.

Confirm the paper is loaded correctly in the printer's paper tray. Do not overfill the tray. Ensure the paper guides are snug against the paper stack. Check for any damage to the paper edges.

Print shows banding or lines.

Perform a print head cleaning cycle on your printer. Check ink levels. Ensure the paper type and quality settings in the print driver are optimal.

Instant-dry coating minimizes smudging and speeds up workflow.
Vibrant color reproduction and excellent contrast.
Good water and fade resistance for longevity.
Compatible with both dye and pigment inks.
Ideal for both color and black & white photography.

Cons

Requires an inkjet printer; not compatible with other printing technologies.

Heavyweight nature might not be suitable for all paper feed mechanisms.
Specific color profiles may be needed for optimal results with certain ink sets.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: Ensure your inkjet printer is set to the correct paper type and quality settings for "glossy" or "photo paper." It is recommended to use the paper in a climate-controlled environment to maintain its properties.

Compatibility: This paper is designed for use with all inkjet printers, both dye-based and pigment-based inks. It is particularly noted for its excellent performance with Ultrachrome inks.

Care: Handle prints by the edges to avoid fingerprints on the gloss surface. For long-term preservation, consider mounting or framing prints behind UV-protective glass. Store unused paper in its original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
