Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
The Craghoppers Natales Trousers are designed for immediate use. Simply put them on as you would any other walking trousers. Adjust the internal drawcord hem to ensure a comfortable and secure fit around your ankles, especially if you are wearing hiking boots or gaiters.
Compatibility
These trousers are highly versatile and compatible with a wide range of outdoor gear:
- Layering: Pair them with a moisture-wicking base layer in colder conditions for added warmth, or wear them alone in milder, wet weather.
- Footwear: Designed to fit comfortably over hiking boots. The hem adjusters help seal out water and debris.
- Jackets: Combine with a waterproof jacket for full head-to-toe rain protection.
- Accessories: Gaiters can be used for extra protection in very boggy or snowy conditions, though the trousers offer significant stand-alone protection.
Care
Proper care is crucial to maintain the waterproof and breathable properties of your Natales Trousers. Follow these steps:
- Washing: Machine wash at a cool temperature (typically 30°C or 86°F) on a gentle cycle. Use a technical wash designed for waterproof fabrics, avoiding conventional detergents, fabric softeners, or bleach, as these can degrade the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish and clog the membrane.
- Drying: Line dry or tumble dry on a low heat setting. Over-drying or high heat can damage the waterproof membrane. Some DWR finishes are reactivated by low heat, so checking the care label is essential.
- Re-proofing: Over time, the H2OShield DWR finish will wear off. If water no longer beads on the surface and the fabric starts to 'wet out', it's time to re-apply a DWR treatment. Use a spray-on or wash-in re-proofing product specifically designed for technical waterproof clothing.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Ensure the trousers are fully dry before storing to prevent mildew.
