Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Using the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 is straightforward:
- Lacing: Ensure the laces are snug but not too tight to allow for natural foot expansion during your run. Experiment with different lacing techniques if you experience pressure points.
- Break-In: While the Endorphin Speed 5 is comfortable out of the box, a few shorter runs (3-5 miles) are recommended to fully adapt to the shoe's feel, especially the winged nylon plate and SPEEDROLL geometry.
Compatibility
- Running Styles: Ideal for neutral runners. The winged nylon plate offers a touch of stability, making it potentially suitable for runners who require minimal support or have a slight pronation.
- Foot Strike: The SPEEDROLL technology and 8mm heel offset (36mm heel, 28mm forefoot) are designed to promote efficient transitions, benefiting both heel and midfoot strikers.
- Terrain: Best suited for road running and paved surfaces. The outsole is designed for optimal grip and durability on these terrains.
Care
Proper care extends the life and performance of your running shoes:
- Cleaning: Remove excess dirt with a soft brush (e.g., old toothbrush) after runs. For deeper cleaning, gently hand wash with mild soap and cold water. Avoid harsh detergents or machine washing, as this can damage materials and adhesives.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources (like radiators), which can warp materials or cause adhesives to fail. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and maintain shape.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing them in plastic bags, which can trap moisture.
- Rotation: If you run frequently, rotating your Endorphin Speed 5 with other running shoes can help extend their lifespan and allow the foam to fully decompress between runs.
