Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Your Oliver Sweeney Hayle Trainers arrive ready to wear. No complex setup is required. We recommend wearing them for shorter periods during the first few days to allow the premium calf leather to naturally conform to the unique shape of your feet, optimizing comfort.
Compatibility
These trainers are designed for versatile pairing within a smart-casual and casual wardrobe:
- Casual: Excellent with jeans (dark or light wash), shorts, and t-shirts or polo shirts for a relaxed yet put-together look.
- Smart-Casual: Ideal with chinos, tailored shorts, and button-down shirts, sweaters, or casual blazers.
- Seasonal: Suitable for all seasons, though leather protection is advised in wet conditions.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the pristine appearance of your calf leather trainers:
- Initial Protection: Before first wear, consider applying a high-quality leather protector spray. This helps guard against water spots and stains without affecting the leather's natural sheen.
- Regular Cleaning: Gently wipe the calf leather upper with a soft, clean, damp cloth to remove surface dust and dirt after each wear. For more stubborn marks, use a leather cleaner specifically formulated for fine calf leather.
- Conditioning: Apply a premium leather conditioner every 1-2 months, or as needed, to keep the leather supple, prevent drying, and maintain its soft sheen. Use a clean cloth and buff gently.
- Drying: If your trainers get wet, stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help retain their shape. Allow them to air dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, which can dry out and crack the leather.
- Sole Cleaning: Clean the white rubber cupsole using a mild soap solution and a soft brush or sponge. A 'magic eraser' can also be effective for removing scuffs.
- Storage: When not in use, store your trainers in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Using shoe trees is highly recommended to help absorb moisture and maintain the shoe's original shape, preventing creases and wrinkles.
