This guide is for builders, roofers, and flooring installers using the Forgefix Spectre Collated Framing Nails (2.8 x 63mm). The key benefit is their high-speed driving and enhanced structural integrity for demanding construction tasks. A caveat to consider is their suitability for Service Class 2 environments due to the electro-galvanised finish. These 1,100-count collated nails feature a smooth shank, sharp point, and clipped D-head design for efficient and precise fastening.

Service Class 2 refers to environments that are protected from the weather, with a limited risk of moisture. This typically includes most indoor applications and some sheltered outdoor areas.
No, the electro-galvanised finish is not suitable for direct exterior exposure or high-moisture environments. For exterior applications, stainless steel or hot-dip galvanised nails are recommended.
A 34° collated framing nailer, either pneumatic or cordless, is required for these nails.
Each box contains approximately 1,100 nails.
A clipped D-head nail has a portion of the head removed. This allows the nails to be driven closer together, which can be beneficial for specific structural applications where tighter spacing is needed.
The electro-galvanised finish provides a level of protection against rust in Service Class 2 environments. However, prolonged exposure to moisture will cause corrosion.
Yes, they are suitable for use in treated lumber for Service Class 2 applications. For exterior treated lumber, consider stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized fasteners.
Ensure the nail gun magazine is loaded correctly with the nails oriented properly. Check that the collation collation strip is not damaged and is feeding smoothly into the gun mechanism. Verify the nail gun is set up for 34° collation.
Check for bent or damaged nails. Ensure the nail gun magazine is clean and free of debris. Refer to your nail gun's manual for specific clearing instructions. Overdriving nails can also cause jams; adjust the depth setting if necessary.
Confirm the nail gun has sufficient air pressure (for pneumatic) or battery charge (for cordless). Adjust the depth control on the nail gun to ensure full penetration. Check for any obstructions in the nailer's drive mechanism.
While designed to minimize splitting, very dense wood or driving nails too close to an edge can still cause minor splits. Ensure the nail is driven into the intended structural member. Pre-drilling may be necessary for extremely hard woods if splitting becomes a significant issue.
Setup:
These nails are designed for use with 34° collated framing nailers. Ensure your nail gun is compatible with paper-collated nails and the specified angle.

Care:
Store nails in a dry environment to prevent premature corrosion of the electro-galvanised finish. Keep the packaging intact until ready for use to maintain collation integrity. Clean your nail gun regularly according to its manufacturer's instructions to ensure optimal performance and prevent jamming.
