Product Information

Full details

The Wolf Tooth RoadLink is designed for road, gravel, and cyclocross cyclists looking to expand their drivetrain range by allowing the use of wide-range mountain bike cassettes. It is the ideal solution for riders transitioning to a 1x setup who need lower climbing gears without replacing their existing rear derailleur. While it provides excellent gear versatility, it is important to note that it is primarily optimized for 10 and 11-speed systems and may require adjustments to your chain length and B-tension settings.

FAQs

Can I use the RoadLink with a 12-speed system?

The RoadLink is optimized for 10 and 11-speed drivetrain configurations.

Does this work with all derailleurs?

It is designed for standard road derailleurs; it may not provide the same benefits or fitment with specific direct-mount derailleurs.

How much does the RoadLink weigh?

The device weighs exactly 17g.

Will this improve my climbing ability?

Yes, by allowing you to use a 40T cassette, you can achieve much lower gear ratios than standard road cassettes allow.

Do I need to replace my derailleur to use this?

No, the RoadLink is specifically designed to work with your existing road derailleur.

Is it difficult to install?

No, installation is straightforward and typically takes under 5 minutes with basic tools.

Troubleshooting

Poor shifting at the small cogs

Adjust the B-tension screw to bring the upper pulley wheel closer to the cassette cogs.

Chain is too short for the new cassette

Install a new chain with more links to accommodate the larger range of the mountain bike cassette.

Derailleur feels unstable or wobbly

Ensure the RoadLink mounting bolt is fully tightened to the specified torque on the frame hanger.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cost-effective alternative to purchasing a new long-cage derailleur
Allows for sub-compact climbing gears on standard road derailleurs
Extremely lightweight at 17g
Simple, quick installation process
Improves versatility for 1x drivetrain conversions

Cons

Not compatible with all derailleur geometries
Requires careful tuning of the B-tension screw
May necessitate a longer chain to accommodate the larger cassette
Shifting performance in the smallest cogs can feel slightly different

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install, remove your current derailleur from the hanger, attach the RoadLink using the provided stainless steel bolt, and then mount your derailleur to the RoadLink. You will likely need to adjust your B-tension screw to account for the new geometry. Ensure that your chain is sized correctly for the largest cog, as the increased cassette size will require extra links. Periodically check the mounting bolt to ensure it remains tight and clean your drivetrain regularly to ensure the derailleur pivot points operate smoothly.
