Setup, Compatibility & Care for Your Sandals
Setup
Your Birkenstock Madrid Big Buckle sandals require minimal setup. Simply place your foot into the sandal and adjust the large metal buckle on the single strap. Ensure the strap is snug enough to hold your foot securely without being uncomfortably tight or causing pressure points. The footbed will begin to mold to your foot's unique shape after a few wears.
Compatibility
These sandals are designed for adult women and are generally compatible with various foot shapes, though the single strap might feel different than multi-strap designs. The anatomical footbed is crafted to support the natural contours of most feet. If you are unsure about sizing, refer to Birkenstock's official sizing guides.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and appearance of your leather sandals.
- Oiled Nubuck Leather Upper: The oiled nubuck leather has an untreated surface. Minor scratches and scuffs are part of its natural character. To clean, gently wipe with a *damp, soft cloth* or use a specialized nubuck brush to lift dirt and restore the nap. For tougher stains, use a leather cleaner specifically formulated for nubuck. Do not use harsh chemicals or immerse in water.
- Nappa Leather Insole: The smooth Nappa leather insole can be wiped with a *slightly damp cloth* to remove dirt or sweat. For deeper cleaning of the footbed, a specialized footbed cleaner is recommended.
- Cork-Latex Footbed: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat, which can dry out and crack the cork. If the cork sealant starts to look dry, apply a thin layer of cork sealer.
- EVA Outsole: The EVA sole can be cleaned with *mild soap and water* using a soft brush or cloth.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
