FAQs
Are these shoes suitable for running?
The U408 is designed primarily for everyday comfort and walking; they are not optimized for long-distance or high-intensity running.
Is the U408 a unisex shoe?
Yes, the New Balance U408 is designed as a unisex model to accommodate various foot shapes comfortably.
How do I ensure I get the right UK size?
We recommend measuring your foot in centimetres or millimetres and comparing it to the official New Balance UK size conversion chart.
Can I put these trainers in the washing machine?
No, machine washing can damage the adhesive and the structural integrity of the C-cap midsole. Stick to hand cleaning with a damp cloth.
What does the C-cap midsole do?
C-cap is a compression-moulded EVA foam that provides lightweight cushioning and support without adding unnecessary weight to the shoe.
Troubleshooting
Foot feels slightly cramped
Loosen the lacing system starting from the eyelets closest to the toes to create more volume.
Visible dirt on upper
Use a dry, soft brush to gently lift debris; for stubborn stains, use a very small amount of mild detergent on a damp cloth.
Midsole feels less cushioned over time
This is often due to debris or uneven wear; ensure the surface is clean and consider using an aftermarket supportive insole if necessary.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your New Balance U408 trainers remain in optimal condition, consider the following:
- Sizing: These shoes are sized in UK adult measurements. Ensure you have measured your foot accurately against a standard UK size chart before purchase.
- Break-in Period: While comfortable out of the box, allow 2-3 days of light wear for the foam midsole to adapt to your specific gait.
- Cleaning: Use a soft-bristled brush to remove surface dirt. For deeper cleaning, wipe with a damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Avoid submerging the trainers in water.
- Drying: Always air dry at room temperature. Keep away from direct heat sources like radiators, as high temperatures can degrade the cushioning materials.
