Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: These sandstone setts require a well-prepared base, typically consisting of a compacted sub-base (like MOT Type 1) and a layer of sharp sand or ballast for bedding. Laying patterns should be planned before starting, ensuring consistent joint widths. For driveways, a more substantial sub-base is recommended.
Compatibility: Rippon Buff Sandstone Setts are compatible with most standard paving installation methods and materials, including sand and cement mortar for bedding and jointing, or traditional sand and aggregate jointing compounds.
Care: Minimal care is needed. Regular sweeping will remove surface debris. For cleaning, use water and a stiff brush. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the stone's natural finish. Mild detergent can be used for stubborn stains. In areas prone to moss or algae, a dedicated stone cleaner can be applied periodically. Sealing is optional but can provide extra protection against stains and enhance the colour, though it may alter the natural slip resistance.
