Gardening Naturally Fungus Gnat Nematodes are an ideal biological solution for indoor gardeners and greenhouse enthusiasts looking to manage fly populations without synthetic chemicals. These microscopic organisms target and eliminate larvae directly in the soil, effectively reducing the life cycle of pests that threaten root health. While they are highly effective at protecting seedlings and stressed plants, they require careful environmental management, such as consistent soil moisture, to ensure the nematodes remain active and successful.

Yes, Steinernema feltiae are non-toxic to humans, pets, and wildlife.
If the infestation is heavy, a second application may be required 2-4 weeks after the first to ensure all life cycles are disrupted.
Yes, they are safe for use on food crops, including seedlings grown in greenhouses.
They are perishable living organisms and should be used as soon as possible after purchase, or stored strictly according to the packet instructions until application.
No, these nematodes are specialized to target fungus gnat larvae and are generally harmless to earthworms and other beneficial garden insects.
Ensure the soil remained consistently moist. If the soil dried out, the nematodes may have died before finding the larvae.
Nematodes target the larvae in the soil; adult flies already present will complete their natural lifespan. The treatment will prevent future generations from hatching.
Ensure the nematodes are fully suspended in water by stirring gently and using a watering can with a rose attachment for better coverage.
To apply the treatment, mix the nematodes with water exactly as instructed on the packaging. Once the mixture is prepared, distribute it evenly across your moist compost or greenhouse trays. Focus your application on the top layer of the growing media, as this is where the larvae are most active. After application, it is critical to keep the compost lightly moist. Do not allow the soil to dry out completely during the treatment period, as this will reduce nematode survival rates. Ensure that no other chemical pesticides are used concurrently in the same soil, as these can kill the beneficial nematodes.
