Product Information

Full details

The Knauf 15mm Moisture Resistant Tapered Edge Plasterboard is designed for professional builders and DIY enthusiasts working on interior projects in kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms where humidity is a concern. The primary benefit is its reinforced gypsum core, which utilizes silicone additives to resist water absorption and provide long-term wall stability, though it is heavier to handle than standard 12.5mm boards due to its increased thickness.

FAQs

Can I use this board in a shower enclosure?

While the board is moisture resistant, it should be used as a substrate and combined with appropriate waterproofing tanking kits for direct shower areas.

Is this board suitable for ceiling installations?

Yes, it can be used for ceilings, though the 15mm thickness makes it heavier than standard ceiling board, so ensure your joists can support the additional weight.

How do I identify the moisture-resistant side?

The board features a distinct green paper liner, which serves as a visual indicator of its moisture-resistant properties.

Can I apply plaster directly over these boards?

Yes, you can apply a skim coat of plaster over the boards, provided the joints have been correctly taped and filled.

What is the primary difference between this and standard 12.5mm board?

This board includes a silicone-reinforced core for moisture resistance and is 2.5mm thicker, offering greater strength and rigidity.

Troubleshooting

Joints cracking after installation

Ensure the frame is stable and that screws are properly spaced to avoid board movement.

Difficulty in achieving a smooth finish

Check that the jointing compound is mixed to the correct consistency and that the recess is completely clean of dust.

Screw heads protruding

Ensure screws are driven deep enough to sit slightly below the surface, but avoid puncturing the paper liner.

Pros and Cons

Pros

High moisture resistance suitable for high-humidity areas
Increased 15mm thickness offers excellent structural rigidity
Tapered edges simplify the finishing process
Easy identification on site due to green paper lining
Strong impact resistance for high-traffic zones

Cons

Heavier than standard 12.5mm boards, requiring more effort to lift
Not intended for external use or direct contact with standing water
Requires proper cutting tools due to the dense, reinforced core

Setup, Compatibility & Care

For optimal results, ensure the supporting timber or metal framework is level and properly spaced before fixing the boards. Use appropriate drylining screws to secure the sheets, ensuring they are driven just below the surface of the paper liner without breaking it. When cutting, use a high-quality utility knife for scoring or a fine-toothed saw for complex shapes. Keep the boards stored in a dry, covered environment prior to installation, as they are moisture-resistant but not waterproof; long-term exposure to direct weather or standing water will compromise the core integrity. Always ensure proper ventilation in the room once the boards are installed to prevent excessive condensation.
