FAQs

Can I use this board for loadbearing walls?

No, this 9.5mm plasterboard is designed for internal partitions, linings, and ceilings, not for structural loadbearing applications.

Does this board require a plaster skim coat?

While it can be skimmed with plaster, the tapered edges are specifically designed to be finished with jointing compound for a flush, seamless finish without needing a full skim.

What screws should I use?

Use standard drywall screws appropriate for the type of stud work (timber or metal) you are fixing into.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Standard plasterboard is not moisture-resistant. If used in a bathroom, it must be protected by appropriate waterproofing or tiling systems, though moisture-resistant boards are generally preferred.

How do I cut this board?

You can easily cut the board by scoring the front paper with a sharp utility knife, snapping the core, and then cutting the paper on the back.

Troubleshooting

Cracks appearing at joints after finishing

Ensure the jointing compound is fully dry before sanding and check that screws are tightened securely without breaking the paper surface.

Difficulty lifting and maneuvering board

Use a mechanical plasterboard lifter for overhead ceiling installations to avoid physical strain and damage to the edges.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Lightweight and easier to handle for ceiling work
Tapered edges ensure a professional, flush finish
Reduces the number of joints required over large areas
Highly compatible with standard stud framing

Cons

Thinner profile is not suitable for loadbearing walls
Requires careful handling to prevent corner cracking
Less sound insulation compared to thicker 15mm alternatives

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Installation requires standard plasterboard screws aligned with timber or metal studs at appropriate centers to ensure structural integrity. When installing, stagger the joints between rows to enhance the stability of the partition. For jointing, use a high-quality setting compound and paper or mesh tape to bridge the tapered recesses. Store the boards flat in a dry, ventilated area off the ground to prevent moisture absorption and edge damage. Avoid placing heavy items on the center of the boards while in storage to prevent bowing.
