While the gilet provides insulation, its sleeveless design means it is best used as a layering piece in very cold weather. For maximum warmth, wear it under a windproof or waterproof jacket.

Wash the gilet according to care instructions, and then consider applying a spray-on or wash-in water-repellent treatment designed for outdoor clothing. Ensure the garment is clean before re-proofing.

Check that the filling is evenly distributed. If it appears compressed or clumped, follow the tumble dry method described above. Ensure no holes or tears are allowing heat to escape.
