Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
No special setup is required for the Polo Ralph Lauren Gorham Down Jacket. Simply unpack, and it's ready to wear. If the down appears compressed from packaging, gently shake and fluff the jacket to help restore its loft.
Compatibility:
This jacket features a regular fit and is designed to be compatible with various layering options. It pairs well over sweaters, hoodies, or other casual winter attire. Its classic design ensures compatibility with most cold-weather wardrobes, suitable for both urban and light outdoor environments.
Care:
Proper care is essential to maintain the insulating properties and longevity of your down jacket. Always refer to the specific care label inside the garment for the most accurate instructions. Generally, for down jackets:
- Cleaning: Professional dry cleaning is often recommended for down jackets to preserve the integrity of the down and outer fabric. If machine washing at home:
- Use a large-capacity, front-loading washing machine (top-loaders with agitators can damage down).
- Zip up all zippers and close all flaps.
- Use a small amount of down-specific detergent, not regular laundry detergent, as it can strip down's natural oils.
- Wash on a delicate cycle with cold water.
- Drying: This is the most crucial step for down jackets.
- Tumble dry on a very low heat setting with several clean tennis balls or dryer balls. These help break up clumps of down and restore loft.
- The drying process can take several hours. Periodically check the jacket and manually fluff any remaining clumps.
- Ensure the jacket is *completely* dry before storing to prevent mildew and preserve the down's loft. Any residual moisture can cause the down to clump and lose its insulating power.
- Storage: Store the jacket uncompressed in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid hanging it in a cramped closet, which can compress the down over time.
