Setup, Compatibility & Care
To achieve optimal results with Marshalls Garden Potimarron Squash Seeds, follow these guidelines:
Sowing:
- Sow seeds indoors in pots about 2-3 weeks before the last frost, or directly outdoors once the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed.
- Plant seeds 1-2 cm deep.
- Spacing: Allow 90-120 cm between plants to ensure adequate room for growth.
Growing Conditions:
- Sunlight: Requires full sun exposure (at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily).
- Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Amend the soil with compost or well-rotted manure before planting.
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Care:
- Weeding: Keep the area around the plants free of weeds, which compete for nutrients and water.
- Pest Control: Monitor for common squash pests like squash bugs and vine borers. Handpick pests when possible or use appropriate organic controls.
- Harvesting: Harvest when the pumpkins have developed a deep, uniform color and the rind is hard. Gently twist or cut the stem, leaving a few inches attached to the fruit.
