Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing & Planting: Start seeds indoors in a propagator or greenhouse. Once seedlings have developed a few true leaves and the risk of frost has passed, transplant them into pots or grow bags, or directly into well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered location. If planting outdoors, ensure the site receives full sun and is protected from wind.
Temperature & Light: Aubergines require warmth, ideally between 25–30°C, and full sun. Protection from frost is crucial.
Watering: Keep the compost evenly moist at all times. Irregular watering can lead to bud drop. Water at the base of the plant to avoid wetting the foliage.
Feeding: Once flowers begin to set, feed every two weeks with a high potash liquid fertilizer, such as a tomato feed, to support fruit development.
Support: Tall plants may require staking to support the weight of the developing fruit.
Pest & Disease: Monitor for common greenhouse pests like aphids and whiteflies. Ensure good air circulation to help prevent fungal diseases.
