FAQs
Are these mitts touchscreen compatible?
The Altura Airstream Mitts do not feature specialized conductive pads for touchscreen operation.
Can these be machine washed?
We recommend hand washing to maintain the integrity of the memory foam padding and the bonded construction.
Are they suitable for mountain biking?
While they provide great vibration damping, they are primarily designed for road cycling comfort; they lack the extra abrasion resistance required for technical trail riding.
How do I determine my size?
Measure the circumference of your dominant hand at the widest point (excluding the thumb) and compare it to the Altura size chart.
Does the graphic print fade?
The high-quality print is designed for durability, but washing in cold water and avoiding harsh chemicals will help keep the colors vibrant.
Troubleshooting
Mitts are difficult to remove
Use the integrated finger pull tabs located on the middle fingers to gently peel the mitts off rather than pulling from the cuff.
Palm grip feels slippery
Wipe the Amara suede palm with a slightly damp cloth to remove any accumulated road grime or oil, which can restore the natural grip.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent vibration absorption via memory foam
- Highly breathable materials prevent overheating
- Easy to remove with integrated finger tabs
- Versatile design matches the Altura Airstream jersey range
Cons
- Not suitable for cold weather riding
- No adjustable hook-and-loop wrist closure
- Limited to warm-season utility
Setup, Compatibility & Care
These mitts are a 'pull-on' style, designed for a snug, aerodynamic fit. Because they lack a traditional wrist strap, ensuring you choose the correct size based on your hand circumference is essential for optimal comfort.
Care Instructions:
- Washing: Hand wash with a mild detergent to preserve the memory foam structure and the synthetic suede palm.
- Drying: Air dry away from direct heat sources. Avoid tumble drying, as excessive heat can degrade the foam and adhesive bonds.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Ensure the mitts are completely dry before putting them away to prevent odors or mildew on the towelling surface.
