FAQs

How do I order a custom size?

Please provide your required sizes in MILLIMETRES in the format (H:____mm x W:____mm). Refer to the measuring guide in the product photos for accurate instructions on measuring the gap.

What is included with the gate?

The gate itself is supplied. A fixing kit, including a Ring and Suffolk latch, can be purchased separately. Please browse our range to add these if needed.

Can I paint or stain the gate immediately?

We recommend waiting 6-8 weeks after installation before applying paint or additional treatments. This allows the timber's pressure treatment to dry properly.

What are the maximum dimensions for a custom gate?

The maximum dimensions available are Height: 180cm and Width: 120cm.

What does 'tanalised and pressure treated' mean?

This process forces a wood preservative deep into the timber, providing maximum protection against rot, decay, and insect attack, ensuring a longer lifespan and resistance to harsh weather.

Will the wood colour be uniform?

No, as this is authentic solid wood, each gate will showcase unique natural variations in colour and grain patterns, making every piece one-of-a-kind.

Where is the gate made?

This gate is handcrafted by skilled gate makers in our Shropshire factory in the UK.

Troubleshooting

Gate does not fit the opening correctly

Ensure measurements were taken accurately in millimetres as per the guide. If the order was incorrect, contact customer support. If the issue is minor dimensional variation, consider minor adjustments to the opening or gate if feasible.

Wood appears to have green flecks

This is normal. The green flecks are from the Tanalith E treatment and will fade over time as the wood weathers.

Gate is difficult to hang

Ensure gate posts are plumb and sturdy. Check that the chosen hinges and latch are compatible and installed correctly. Ensure the gate is not warped, which can sometimes occur with natural timber.

Wood shows signs of swelling or shrinking

This is a natural characteristic of solid wood due to changes in humidity and temperature. Ensure there is adequate clearance around the gate during installation.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Customizable to fit exact gate openings.
  • Durable construction with interlocking boards and solid framing.
  • Treated timber provides excellent weather and rot resistance.
  • Aesthetic appeal with a contemporary design and natural wood finish.
  • Supports UK craftsmanship and local manufacturing.

Cons

  • Fixing kits (hinges, latch) are sold separately.
  • Requires a waiting period before painting or additional treatments.
  • Natural timber may show slight dimensional variations due to weather.
  • Maximum dimensions apply (180cm H x 120cm W).

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

To order your bespoke gate, please provide your required sizes in MILLIMETRES using the format (H:____mm x W:____mm). Refer to the provided measurement guide to accurately determine the gap size for your gate. Ensure you have appropriate gate posts and a level ground surface for installation. Fixing kits, including ring and Suffolk latch hinge packs, are available for separate purchase.

Compatibility:

This gate is designed to fit openings up to a maximum of 180cm in height and 120cm in width. It is compatible with standard gate hardware, which can be purchased alongside the gate.

Care:

All timber components are pressure treated for protection. For optimal results and to allow the treatment to dry sufficiently, it is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks post-installation before applying any paint or additional wood treatments. Clean the gate with a damp cloth as needed. Be aware that timber will naturally expand and contract with varying weather conditions; some dimensional variation is expected.
