Product Information

Full details

The Fox Horizon X4 Stalker Butt Section is designed for dedicated carp anglers who use 12ft Horizon X4 rods and want the ability to transition into close-quarters stalking without investing in a secondary rod setup. By replacing the standard butt section with this 2ft 6in component, you effectively transform your 12ft rod into a maneuverable 8ft 6in stalking tool perfect for tight swims or dense foliage, though it is important to note that this requires disassembling your current rod and managing the spare part while on the bank.

FAQs

Will this work with a 10ft Horizon X4 rod?

No, this butt section is specifically engineered for the 12ft Horizon X4 models only.

Does it change the test curve of the rod?

While the test curve remains similar, the shorter lever length will make the rod feel stiffer and more powerful when playing fish at close range.

Is the reel seat size compatible with all standard big pit reels?

Yes, the reel seat is designed to accommodate the wide range of reels typically used with Horizon X4 rods.

Can I use this for casting at long distances?

It is designed for stalking and close-quarters use; it is not recommended for maximum distance casting.

How should I store the butt section when not in use?

Store it in a dry environment, ideally within a rod sleeve to prevent the spigot from being damaged or scratched.

Troubleshooting

The butt section does not fit snugly onto the tip section.

Check the spigot for dirt, sand, or debris and clean thoroughly before attempting to re-fit.

The reel seat feels loose or difficult to tighten.

Inspect the reel seat threads for debris and apply a small amount of warm water if salt or grit has caused a lock-up.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cost-effective solution to owning a stalking rod
Maintains the rod's original casting and fish-playing characteristics
Compact size facilitates easier travel through undergrowth
High-quality materials matching the original build quality

Cons

Requires manual breakdown and rebuild of your fishing rod
Not compatible with other rod series outside of the Horizon X4 range
Requires storage space for the unused 12ft butt section during use

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install, simply disconnect your 12ft rod at the spigot joint, remove the original 12ft butt section, and slide the Stalker Butt Section onto the existing tip section. Ensure the spigot is clean and debris-free before connection. This product is strictly compatible with the 12ft Horizon X4 models in 3lb, 3.25lb, and 3.5lb test curves. To maintain the grip, wipe the shrink wrap handle with a damp, non-abrasive cloth to remove dirt or bait residue, and keep the reel seat thread clean from grit to ensure smooth tightening.
