This Blackfriar Wood Dye in Dark Jacobean is designed for DIY enthusiasts and woodworkers looking to enhance the natural beauty of bare timber, plywood, and chipboard. Its key benefit is providing a rich, light-resistant colour that can be customized by mixing with other dyes for unique shades, suitable for both interior and exterior applications. A potential consideration is ensuring proper surface preparation for optimal adhesion and colour consistency.

No, this wood dye is designed for bare timber, plywood, and chipboard. Existing finishes must be completely removed before application.
You can mix the Dark Jacobean dye with other Blackfriar wood dyes in a separate container. Always test the mixed colour on a scrap piece of wood to verify the result before applying to your project.
Apply evenly with a brush, cloth, or sponge. Work the dye into the wood grain for best penetration and coverage. Avoid leaving brush marks.
Yes, it is highly recommended to apply a protective finish such as varnish, lacquer, or oil after the dye has fully dried to protect the colour and the wood.
While suitable for interior wood, for high-traffic areas like flooring, ensure a very durable topcoat is applied after the dye has dried to protect against wear.
Drying times can vary based on application thickness and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity). Generally, allow at least a few hours for the first coat to dry before applying subsequent coats or a protective finish.
Ensure the wood surface is properly prepared and sanded. Apply the dye evenly with consistent strokes. If the issue persists, sand lightly and reapply.
Check if the wood has a pre-existing finish or is treated. Ensure the surface is bare wood. Sanding may be required to open the wood grain.
Apply additional coats of the dye, allowing each coat to dry fully in between. Alternatively, mix with a darker shade or consider a different wood dye product for a more intense colour.
Ensure the application environment has adequate ventilation and is not excessively humid. Avoid applying excessively thick coats.
Preparation: Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or existing finishes. Sanding the wood to a smooth finish will improve dye absorption and colour uniformity.
Application: Apply the dye evenly using a brush, cloth, or sponge. For a deeper colour, apply additional coats once the previous coat has dried. Allow the dye to dry completely as per product instructions before applying a protective finish like varnish or lacquer.
Compatibility: This wood dye is suitable for bare timber, plywood, and chipboard. It is intended for use under clear finishes; it is not a varnish or sealant itself.
Care: Once finished and sealed, surfaces treated with this dye can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or excessive moisture.
