Can I dye synthetic fabrics like polyester or nylon?

Troubleshooting
Color is not as vibrant or expected.
Check the fabric composition; only natural fibers will dye fully. Ensure you used the correct amount of dye for the fabric weight, and that the water was adequately warm. Also, consider the original color of the fabric as it will influence the final shade.
Dyeing result is uneven or patchy.
Ensure the fabric was pre-washed and damp before dyeing. Stir the fabric continuously during the initial dyeing phase (first 15 minutes) and regularly thereafter to ensure even dye absorption. Make sure the fabric is fully submerged in the dye bath.
Dye won't rinse clear.
Continue rinsing the fabric in cold water until the water runs clear. This may take several rinses. After the initial rinse, wash the item with warm, soapy water to remove any residual surface dye, then rinse again.
Dye stained my sink/utensils.
For non-porous surfaces like stainless steel, immediately clean with a strong cleaner or bleach solution. For plastic, staining may be permanent. Always use dedicated dyeing utensils or protect surfaces properly before starting.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Work Area: Choose a well-ventilated area, preferably with a non-porous surface that can be easily cleaned or protected. Cover your workspace with plastic sheeting or old newspapers.
Tools: You will need a large non-metallic bowl or stainless steel sink, a stirring implement (e.g., an old spoon or stick), rubber gloves, and measuring tools for water and salt.
Preparation: Ensure the fabric to be dyed is clean and damp. Wash any new fabrics to remove finishes that might repel the dye.
