FAQs
Can I use these for wrestling as well as boxing?
While the design shares similarities with wrestling gear, these are specifically engineered for the demands of the boxing ring. They perform best on standard boxing canvas.
How should these fit compared to my daily sneakers?
Boxing boots should generally fit snugly to prevent movement. Many athletes prefer a slightly tighter fit than a standard running shoe to ensure maximum control.
Are these suitable for wide feet?
The Matcontrol series features a performance fit. If you have exceptionally wide feet, you may need to consider adjusting the lacing or sizing accordingly.
How do I maintain the grip on the sole?
Keep the soles clean and avoid wearing them anywhere outside the ring or gym. Even small amounts of gravel or dirt can damage the soft rubber compound.
Is the material breathable?
Yes, the materials are selected to balance support with heat management, helping to keep your feet cool during intense workouts.
Troubleshooting
Feeling of slipping inside the shoe
Re-lace the boots, ensuring you are using the eyelets all the way up to the collar to secure the ankle lock.
Reduced grip on the canvas
Wipe the outsole with a damp cloth to remove any accumulated dust or debris that can interfere with traction.
Pros and Cons
Pros

- High-traction outsole optimized for canvas
- Lightweight construction prevents leg fatigue
- Secure lockdown fit for increased confidence
Cons
- Specialized design not suitable for general gym training
- Mid-cut profile may feel restrictive to those used to low-top shoes
- Limited to indoor boxing ring environments
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the longevity of your Asics Matcontrol boots, follow these guidelines:
- Fit Check: Ensure the laces are tightened evenly to utilize the full extent of the ankle lockdown system.
- Surface Use: These boots are strictly for use on boxing canvas or clean gym mats. Using them on abrasive outdoor surfaces will cause rapid wear to the specialized outsole rubber.
- Cleaning: After training, wipe down the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not submerge the boots in water or use harsh chemical cleaners.
- Drying: Air dry the boots at room temperature. Never place them in a dryer or directly on a heat source, as this can warp the materials and compromise the adhesive bonds.
