Designed for builders, woodworkers, and DIY enthusiasts, the TIMco M10 x 220mm Carriage Bolt is the ideal solution for securing ironmongery to timber or clamping thick timber components together. These high-quality Grade 4.8 carbon steel bolts provide a robust connection with an anti-spin shoulder for easy one-sided tightening, though they require pre-drilling to ensure the square shoulder seats correctly into the wood.

For lengths 160mm and above, this bolt features a 150mm thread length.
They feature a zinc finish which is suitable for interior use or protected outdoor areas, but they are not recommended for direct, unprotected exposure to extreme weather.
You will need a drill with a 10mm+ bit, a hammer or mallet to seat the shoulder, and a spanner or socket wrench to tighten the hex nut.
They are manufactured from Grade 4.8 carbon steel.
Yes, hex nuts are included with the bolts.
The square shoulder is designed to bite into the timber, preventing the bolt from rotating while you tighten the nut.
Ensure the square shoulder is fully driven into the timber using a mallet or hammer to lock it in place.
Check that the hole is drilled straight and is at least the nominal diameter of the bolt (10mm).
Verify that no debris or wood shavings are caught in the threads and that the thread pitch matches the bolt.
Installation requires a drill bit slightly larger than 10mm. To seat the bolt, drill a pilot hole and then use a hammer to drive the bolt until the square shoulder is embedded in the wood fibers; this ensures a smooth, finished look and locks the bolt in place.
For care, while the zinc finish offers good protection against rust, it is recommended to keep these away from constant moisture or salt air environments. If installing in treated timber, ensure the finish is compatible to prevent chemical corrosion over time. Periodically check the tightness of the hex nut, as timber may shrink or settle over months of seasonal changes, potentially loosening the connection.
