Setup, Compatibility & Care
When you first receive your Birkenstock sandals, ensure the straps are adjusted to sit comfortably across your instep without restricting circulation. Because these utilize a natural cork-latex footbed, the material will gradually mold to the shape of your feet over the first few weeks of regular wear. To maintain the quality of the leather and the integrity of the cork:
- Avoid submerging the sandals in water or wearing them in heavy rain, as this can degrade the cork and stiffen the leather.
- Clean the leather uppers periodically with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust.
- Use a specialized suede brush to maintain the nap of the footbed liner.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat sources to prevent the cork from drying out.
