FAQs
What is the purpose of side reins?
Side reins encourage the horse to work correctly, promoting better posture, balance, and muscle development during lunging.
How do I choose the correct size?
Shires Nylon Web Side Reins come in one size, which is fully adjustable to fit most horses.
How should the side reins be adjusted?
The reins should be adjusted so the horse is encouraged to lower its head slightly and stretch forward. Contact should be gentle, not forced.
Can I use these reins on any horse?
These reins can be used on a wide range of horses. It's recommended to start with shorter sessions and monitor the horse's response.
How do I clean the side reins?
Clean the nylon webbing with mild soap and water. Allow to air dry.
What should I do if the elastic inserts stretch out?
If the elastic inserts stretch out, the reins may no longer function effectively, and it would be best to replace them.
Are trigger clips safe?
Trigger clips are designed for ease of use. However, it is essential to check the clips for proper function before each use.
Troubleshooting
Side reins appear too tight, restricting the horse's movement.
Loosen the adjustable straps to provide more slack.
Horse is resistant or uncomfortable with the reins.
Check the fit and ensure it isn't too tight. Consider shortening the session length and gradually increasing the time.
Clips are difficult to attach.
Ensure the clips are free from debris and the attachment points are easily accessible.

- Compatibility: These reins are compatible with most standard saddles and lunge cavessons.
- Care: Clean the nylon webbing with mild soap and water. Allow to air dry. Check the reins regularly for wear and tear, and replace them if necessary.
