Vinylon F is a synthetic fiber developed by Fjällräven. It has a unique property where it behaves like a natural fiber, swelling when it gets damp. This characteristic makes the fabric denser and more resistant to moisture, providing excellent durability and protection against dirt and water without needing a special coating.

The Vinylon F fabric makes the Kånken highly water-resistant, meaning it can withstand light rain and splashes well. However, it is not entirely waterproof, especially the zippers. For heavy downpours or submerged conditions, internal dry bags are recommended for sensitive items.

This classic 16L Kånken model does not have a dedicated, padded laptop sleeve. However, a small tablet or a very thin laptop (typically up to 13 inches, depending on dimensions) can fit in the main compartment. For optimal protection, always use a separate padded sleeve for your device. Fjällräven offers specific Kånken Laptop models with built-in sleeves for various laptop sizes.

The removable seat cushion serves two main purposes: it provides extra padding and comfort against your back when carrying the backpack, and it can be taken out and used as a portable sitting pad during breaks, picnics, or while waiting.

Spot clean your Kånken using a soft brush, lukewarm water, and a small amount of mild, non-detergent soap. Avoid machine washing, tumble drying, ironing, or using harsh chemicals, as these can damage the fabric and hardware. Always air dry your backpack completely.

The Kånken's webbing shoulder straps are designed for comfortable everyday carry. While they are adjustable and generally comfortable for light to moderate loads, for very heavy loads or extended expeditions, some users might find less padding compared to technical hiking backpacks. However, for its intended use as a daily bag, they perform well.

Ensure the straps are correctly adjusted and threaded through the buckles. Distribute the weight evenly inside the backpack. For heavy loads, consider if the 16L capacity is sufficient for your needs or if a larger backpack would be more suitable.

The Vinylon F fabric naturally softens and molds over time. Ensure the removable seat cushion is properly inserted into the back pocket, as it helps maintain the bag's structure. Filling the bag appropriately can also help it hold its shape.

Periodically clean the zipper teeth with a soft brush to remove any dirt or debris. For stubborn stiffness, a small amount of zipper lubricant (like zipper wax or a graphite pencil) can be applied.

Gently spot clean the affected area with a soft brush, lukewarm water, and a small amount of mild soap. Avoid scrubbing too hard or using abrasive cleaners. Air dry completely.
