Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: These boots are ready for the trail right out of the box, though a short break-in period is recommended for optimal comfort. Ensure the standard lace system is tied securely but not overly tight, allowing for natural foot expansion during activity. The SensiFit™ system will help secure your foot once laced.
Compatibility: The Quest 5 GTX is designed for use on a wide variety of terrains, including wet, rocky, muddy, snowy, and mixed surfaces. They are compatible with standard hiking socks. Ensure you have appropriate gear for the specific conditions you plan to encounter.
Care: To maintain the performance and longevity of your boots:
- Cleaning: After use, remove loose dirt and mud with a soft brush or damp cloth. Avoid harsh detergents. For stubborn dirt, use a mild soap and water solution.
- Drying: Allow boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Never dry them near a direct heat source like a radiator or fire, as this can damage the materials and adhesives. Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain shape during drying.
- Waterproofing: The GORE-TEX lining is durable, but the leather and synthetic upper may benefit from occasional treatment with a waterproofing product suitable for hiking boots, especially after extensive wear or cleaning, to maintain water repellency.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
