FAQs
Are these shoes suitable for running?
While the 992 was originally inspired by performance design, it is best suited for walking and lifestyle wear rather than intensive athletic running.
Do the New Balance 992s fit true to size?
Generally, the 992 series fits true to size, but consider that the structure is supportive and slightly more robust than lightweight modern trainers.
How do I maintain the black and grey finish?
Avoid liquid immersion. Use a dry brush for maintenance and a water-repellent spray designed for suede to protect against light moisture.
Can I remove the insoles?
Yes, the insoles are typically removable if you require custom orthotics.
Are these shoes waterproof?
No, they are not waterproof. They are made from premium textiles and suede which can be damaged by heavy rain or immersion in water.
Troubleshooting
Visible dirt on suede upper
Use a specialized dry suede brush to gently lift dirt without damaging the texture.
Creasing near the toe box
Use sneaker trees when not wearing the shoes to help maintain their original shape.
Laces becoming loose
Ensure a double-knot or utilize the extra eyelet at the top for a more secure 'runner's lock' fit.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your New Balance 992 trainers last, follow these guidelines:
- Breaking In: New leather or suede trainers often require a short break-in period. Wear them for short durations indoors before full-day use.
- Cleaning: Use a soft brush to remove surface dirt from suede areas. For tougher stains, use a dedicated sneaker cleaning solution specifically formulated for suede and synthetic fabrics. Do not machine wash.
- Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent the black and grey tones from fading.
- Compatibility: These trainers feature a neutral look that pairs well with denim, chinos, or athletic joggers.
