Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
There is no specific setup required for the Caran d’Ache Pablo pencils. Simply remove them from their protective wooden box and they are ready for immediate use.
Compatibility:
These pencils are compatible with a wide range of art media and surfaces. They perform exceptionally well on various types of paper, including textured drawing paper, watercolor paper, and Bristol board. Due to their water-resistant properties, they can be effectively combined with other dry media like graphite or charcoal, as well as wet media such as watercolors, gouache, or acrylics, provided layers are allowed to dry appropriately between applications. They can also be used with Caran d’Ache's own NEOCOLOR® wax oil pastels and SUPRACOLOR® Soft Aquarelle pencils for mixed-media effects.
Care:
To maintain the quality and longevity of your Pablo pencils:
- Storage: Store the pencils in their original wooden box or a similar dedicated pencil case. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent fading or damage to the wood and lead.
- Sharpening: Use a high-quality pencil sharpener designed for artist-grade pencils. A sharpener with a good blade angle will ensure a fine point without excessive waste or lead breakage. Manual sharpeners are often preferred for better control.
- Cleaning: The pencils themselves require minimal cleaning. If the wood becomes dusty, gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth. The wooden box can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth, ensuring it is dried thoroughly afterward.
