Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
The Mercia Overlap Apex Shed is designed for a stress-free assembly process. Before you begin, ensure you have a flat, level, and solid base (e.g., concrete slab, paved area, or a timber base kit) that is slightly larger than the shed's footprint. This is crucial for stability and proper alignment of the panels.
- Unpack and Inspect: Carefully unpack all components and check against the detailed instructions to ensure all parts and fixtures are present.
- Assemble Floor: Lay down the solid sheet board floor panel on your prepared base.
- Construct Walls: Attach the overlap wall panels to the floor and each other, securing them with the provided fixtures and fittings. Ensure panels are plumb and square.
- Install Roof: Fit the solid sheet board roof panels. The apex design will guide this process.
- Apply Roofing Felt: Secure the robust roofing felt to the roof structure using the supplied fixings. Overlap the felt correctly to prevent water ingress.
- Attach Door and Ironmongery: Install the door and all necessary hinges, latches, and bolts.
Compatibility
This 6 x 4ft shed is perfectly suited for:
- Smaller Gardens: Maximises storage in limited outdoor spaces.
- Patios and Balconies: Can be a storage option if space and local regulations permit.
- General Household Use: Ideal for storing garden tools, small equipment, children's outdoor toys, and seasonal items.
Care
To ensure your Mercia Overlap Apex Shed remains in excellent condition and to uphold its conditional 10-year Anti-rot guarantee, follow these care instructions:
- Annual Re-treatment: This is the most critical step. Apply a high-quality, oil-based timber preservative annually to all exterior timber surfaces. This replenishes the wood's protective layer against moisture, UV damage, and fungal decay.
- Clear Debris: Regularly remove leaves, dirt, and other debris from the roof and around the base of the shed to prevent moisture build-up.
- Check Roofing Felt: Periodically inspect the roofing felt for any tears, lifting, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary to maintain a watertight seal.
- Inspect Timber: Look for any signs of wear, rot, or insect damage. Address minor issues promptly.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow around the shed to prevent condensation inside.
