Setup
The Mercia Overlap Apex Shed is designed for stress-free assembly. Before starting, ensure you have a flat, level, and solid base (e.g., concrete slab, paved area, or a purpose-built timber foundation) large enough to accommodate the 10 x 8ft footprint.
- Unpack Components: Carefully unpack all timber sections, roofing felt, fixtures, and fittings. Check against the included instructions to ensure all parts are present.
- Build Base Frame: Assemble the floor bearers and solid sheet floor according to the detailed manufacturer's instructions.
- Construct Walls: Erect the wall panels, ensuring they are plumb and securely fixed to the base and each other using the provided screws and nails.
- Install Roof Structure: Assemble and attach the apex roof trusses, followed by the solid sheet roof panels.
- Apply Roofing Felt: Lay the roofing felt, starting from the eaves and overlapping as per instructions, securing it with felt nails to ensure a watertight seal.
- Install Doors and Windows: Attach the double doors, ensuring they open and close smoothly. Install the shatterproof styrene glazing into the window openings.
- Final Checks: Confirm all fixings are secure and the shed is stable.
Compatibility
This shed is primarily designed for garden and outdoor storage. Its size and robust construction make it suitable for a wide range of climates, provided it is properly maintained. It is compatible with standard garden foundations.
Care
To ensure the longevity and maintain the manufacturer's 10-year conditional anti-rot guarantee, regular care is essential:
- Annual Re-treatment: The timber requires annual re-treatment with a high-quality, oil-based timber preservative to protect against rot, decay, and insect infestation. This is a mandatory condition for the anti-rot guarantee.
- Cleanliness: Keep the interior and exterior of the shed clean from debris, leaves, and dirt to prevent moisture buildup and rot.
- Check Roofing Felt: Periodically inspect the roofing felt for any tears, lifting, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary to maintain a watertight roof.
- Door and Window Maintenance: Ensure doors latch properly and hinges are oiled if they start to stick. Check window glazing for any cracks, though the styrene is shatterproof.
- Foundation Inspection: Regularly check the shed's foundation to ensure it remains level and free from pooling water.
