FAQs

Is the Shark StainStriker designed for cleaning entire rooms or just spots?

The Shark StainStriker is specifically designed for spot cleaning. It's ideal for tackling individual stains, spills, and small pet messes on carpets, rugs, upholstery, and more, rather than cleaning entire carpeted areas.

Do I have to use special cleaning solutions with this machine?

For optimal performance and to utilize the dual-activated cleaning technology, it is highly recommended to use Shark's proprietary StainStriker OXY Multiplier Formula and CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pet Formula. Using other solutions may not yield the same stain-striking power or odor elimination.

How does the HairPro Pet Technology work with pet hair?

The HairPro Pet Technology is designed to send pet hair directly into the dirty water tank without tangling around brushes or clogging the machine's internal components. This ensures continuous, powerful suction and prevents messy hair accumulation on your tools.

Can I use the StainStriker on upholstery or car interiors?

Yes, the Shark StainStriker is versatile and can be used to spot clean upholstery, pet beds, stairs, and even car interiors. Always perform a small patch test in an inconspicuous area first to ensure colorfastness and compatibility with the fabric.

How do I clean the machine after use?

After each use, empty and rinse both the clean and dirty water tanks. Use the included hose-cleaning tool to flush clean water through the hose. Rinse all attachments and wipe down the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth. Allow all components to air dry before storing.

Does it require pre-treatment or hot water for stains?

No, the Shark StainStriker does not require heat or pre-treatment for most stains. Its dual-activated cleaning solution is formulated to start working immediately upon application, lifting and extracting stains effectively with cold or warm water.

What types of stains can it remove?

The StainStriker is highly effective against a variety of tough stains and odors, including pet urine, ground-in dirt, red wine, and chocolate, thanks to its powerful cleaning formulas and suction.

Troubleshooting

Machine won't turn on.

Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. Check if the power switch is in the 'ON' position. Verify that all components, especially the water tanks, are correctly seated and latched.

Poor suction or not cleaning effectively.

Check if the dirty water tank is full and needs emptying. Ensure the clean water tank has sufficient solution. Inspect the hose and chosen cleaning tool for any blockages from debris or hair. Make sure the tool is pressed firmly against the surface during use.

Pet hair is tangling or clumping.

While the HairPro technology is designed to prevent this, ensure the dirty water tank is not overfilled. Check if there's any excessive build-up around the suction nozzle or inside the hose that might impede hair flow to the tank. Use the hose-cleaning tool regularly.

Odor persists after cleaning.

Ensure you are using the Shark dual-activated cleaning solutions as recommended, particularly the StainStriker OXY Multiplier Formula which targets odors. For tough odors, a second pass with fresh solution may be necessary. Thoroughly empty and clean both water tanks and the hose after each use to prevent bacterial growth and stale odors.

Solution is not spraying.

Check if the clean water tank is properly filled and seated. Ensure the solution bottle inside the tank is correctly inserted. Verify that the spray nozzle on the attachment is not clogged. If using concentrated solutions, ensure they are mixed correctly.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Exceptional Pet Hair Management: HairPro Pet Technology effectively prevents hair tangling and clogging.
Rapid Stain Removal: Dual-activated solution provides powerful, instant stain and odor elimination without pre-treatment.
Quick Drying: Strong suction minimizes drying time for cleaned areas.
Highly Portable: Lightweight design allows for easy movement and use across different locations.
Versatile Use: Suitable for various surfaces beyond carpets, including upholstery and car interiors.
Easy Maintenance: Removable tanks and a dedicated hose-cleaning tool simplify cleaning the machine.

Cons

Spot Cleaning Focus: Designed for spot cleaning and individual stains, not for cleaning entire rooms or large carpeted areas.
Proprietary Solutions: Optimal performance relies on specific Shark dual-activated cleaning solutions.
Tank Capacity: While good for a spot cleaner, extensive or multiple large messes may require frequent refilling and emptying of tanks.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

Unpack Components: Carefully remove the main unit, water tanks, and attachments from the packaging.
Assemble Tanks: Ensure the clean water tank (for Shark cleaning solutions) and dirty water tank are correctly inserted and latched into the main unit.
Fill Clean Water Tank: Fill the designated clean water tank with water up to the fill line. For optimal stain removal, add the recommended Shark StainStriker OXY Multiplier Formula and CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pet Formula as instructed on the solution bottles.
Attach Hose and Tool: Connect the flexible hose to the main unit and then attach your chosen cleaning tool (e.g., Tough Stain, Pet Stain) to the end of the hose.
Power On: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

Compatibility:

This unit is designed to be used with Shark dual-activated cleaning solutions, specifically the StainStriker OXY Multiplier Formula and CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pet Formula, for maximum effectiveness.
It is suitable for spot cleaning on most carpets, rugs, upholstery, pet beds, and car interiors. Always perform a patch test on an inconspicuous area first to check for colorfastness.

Care:

Empty Dirty Water Tank: After each use, or when the dirty water tank is full, remove it from the unit and empty its contents into a sink. Rinse the tank thoroughly with clean water.
Rinse Clean Water Tank: If any cleaning solution remains, empty and rinse the clean water tank.
Clean Hose: Use the included Hose-Cleaning tool by attaching it to the hose and running clean water through the system. This helps prevent clogs and odors within the hose.
Clean Attachments: Rinse all used attachments under clean water to remove any residue. Allow them to air dry.
Wipe Down Unit: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or spills.
Store Properly: Store the unit and its attachments in a cool, dry place.
