Setup, Compatibility & Care
For optimal results, plant these bulbs in the autumn in a location that receives full sun or partial shade. The bulbs should be planted at a depth of approximately 10-15 cm and spaced roughly 15-20 cm apart. Ensure the soil is fertile and, most importantly, free-draining; if your soil is heavy clay, add grit to the planting hole to improve drainage.
- Watering: Once established, they are relatively drought-tolerant, but keep the soil moist during the active growing period in spring.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring as shoots emerge to support flower development.
- Post-Bloom Care: Do not cut the leaves back immediately after flowering; allow the foliage to die back naturally so the bulb can store energy for next year's growth.
- Division: Every 3-4 years, lift and divide overcrowded bulb clumps in the autumn to maintain vigour.
