FAQs

Is this helmet suitable for both cycling and skateboarding?

Yes, the Abus Skurb is designed with a versatile skater-inspired look and robust protection suitable for cycling, scootering, and skateboarding.

How do I clean the inner padding?

The padding is removable. Simply unfasten the velcro points, hand wash with mild soapy water, and allow to air dry before reattaching.

Does the helmet fit children with long hair?

Absolutely. The helmet features a specialized rear design that is fully ponytail-compatible to ensure a comfortable fit.

What is In-Mold construction?

In-Mold is a manufacturing process where the outer shell is permanently bonded to the foam interior, resulting in a lighter and more durable helmet.

Can I replace the chin strap?

The webbing is integrated into the helmet structure. If the webbing is damaged, the helmet should be replaced rather than repaired.

Troubleshooting

Helmet feels loose even with the adjustment wheel turned fully

Ensure the side strap sliders are correctly positioned just below the ears to create a 'V' shape, and verify the chin strap is tightened sufficiently.

Ventilation feels blocked

Check the interior air channels for any debris or hair buildup and clean the pads to ensure clear passage for airflow.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High-impact protection via In-Mold technology
  • Stylish skater-inspired aesthetic popular with children
  • Highly adjustable fit with the Zoom Ace system
  • Great ventilation for hot summer days
  • Easy to clean with washable interior padding

Cons

  • Limited color customization outside of the base model range
  • Requires manual adjustment for optimal fit
  • Not intended for motorized vehicle use

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To set up the helmet, place it on the child's head so that the front sits low enough to protect the forehead. Turn the Zoom Ace wheel at the back until the fit is snug but comfortable. Ensure the chin strap is adjusted so that it sits under the chin with just enough room to fit one or two fingers between the strap and the chin. For care, keep the helmet away from extreme heat sources like car dashboards or heaters, as this can damage the structural integrity. If the padding becomes soiled, remove it and wash by hand with mild soap and water, letting it air dry completely before re-inserting.
