Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your sunflowers thrive, select a site that receives full sun throughout the day. When planting in containers, use a high-quality, free-draining potting compost to ensure the roots do not sit in water.
- Sowing: Sow seeds in spring once the risk of frost has passed.
- Watering: Water the base of the plant regularly, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season to support the development of large flower heads.
- Deadheading: While you can remove spent flowers, leaving them allows for seed maturation for birds.
