Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting: Choose a location that receives full sun. Ensure the soil is rich and, most importantly, well-drained. Avoid areas where water tends to collect. Plant the 9cm pot so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
Watering: Water regularly after planting to help establish the plant. Once established, 'Patty's Plum' is relatively drought-tolerant, but water during prolonged dry spells. Avoid overwatering.
Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Amending heavy clay soil with compost or grit will improve drainage. If planting in containers, use a good quality potting mix with added perlite for drainage.
Hardiness: This is a hardy perennial, suitable for most garden climates in the UK.
Deadheading: While not essential for the plant's health, removing spent flowers can tidy the appearance. Be aware that the plant may go dormant after flowering, so cutting back too hard might not be beneficial.
Support: In very windy locations, tall stems might benefit from gentle staking.
