Product Information

Full details

The Focusrite Clarett+ 2Pre is a bus-powered USB-C audio interface for PC and Mac, ideal for recording vocals, instruments, and composing. Its key benefit lies in its pure, audibly stunning sound quality thanks to professional Clarett+ mic preamps and improved converters. A potential caveat is the requirement for a 15W USB-C port for bus power. This interface offers high headroom, minimal distortion, ultra-low noise, and features like the all-analogue Air mode and dedicated JFET instrument inputs for authentic tone.

FAQs

Can the Clarett+ 2Pre be powered by any USB-C port?

No, it requires a USB-C port that provides at least 15W of power for stable operation.

What is the purpose of the 'Air' feature?

The 'Air' feature emulates the sound of Focusrite's classic ISA 110 preamp, adding a subtle enhancement to the high frequencies, making vocals and acoustic instruments sound more open and detailed.

Can I connect microphones and instruments simultaneously?

Yes, you can use the two combo XLR/TRS inputs for microphones and the dedicated JFET instrument inputs (front panel) for instruments at the same time.

How do I expand my input channels?

You can connect an ADAT-compatible device, such as an 8-channel preamp like the Focusrite Clarett OctoPre, to the ADAT optical input for an additional 8 channels of input.

What software is included with the Clarett+ 2Pre?

The bundle typically includes a three-month Splice Sounds subscription, a Pro Tools Artist trial, and access to the Focusrite Plug-in Collective, offering various virtual instruments and plugins.

Is the Clarett+ 2Pre compatible with M1/M2 Macs?

Yes, it is compatible with macOS 10.12 or higher, including Macs equipped with M1 and M2 chips.

What is the difference between the microphone inputs and the instrument inputs?

The microphone inputs (XLR/TRS combo) are designed for microphones with balanced, low-impedance signals. The JFET instrument inputs are specifically designed for high-impedance, unbalanced signals from instruments like guitars and basses, preserving their natural tone.

Troubleshooting

No sound from the interface

Verify the USB-C connection is secure and providing sufficient power (15W minimum). Check that the Clarett+ 2Pre is selected as the default audio device in your OS and DAW. Ensure input levels are not set too low and that output levels are turned up.

Device not recognized by computer

Try a different USB-C port or cable. Ensure you have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and Focusrite Control software from the Focusrite website. Restart your computer with the interface connected.

High latency or audio dropouts

Reduce the buffer size in your DAW or audio settings. Close unnecessary background applications on your computer. Ensure your computer meets the recommended specifications for audio processing.

Air mode not having the desired effect

Ensure the Air mode button is activated in Focusrite Control or on the hardware (if applicable). Confirm that the input signal is strong enough to benefit from the high-frequency boost provided by Air.

JFET instrument input sounds distorted

Lower the input gain on the JFET instrument channel. Ensure your instrument's output level is not excessively high. The JFET input is designed for instrument-level signals, not line-level.
