The Cheshire Mouldings Dado Wall Panelling Kit is designed for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts looking to add architectural interest and traditional character to their interior walls. This kit provides a straightforward way to install a stylish dado rail, offering the benefit of a professional-looking finish without the complexity of custom carpentry; however, users should note that the kit arrives in a natural brown wood finish and requires surface preparation, such as sanding and painting or staining, to match their existing interior design.

While the wood is durable, ensure it is thoroughly sealed with a moisture-resistant primer and high-quality gloss or satin paint to prevent warping in humid conditions.
Basic DIY tools are sufficient, including a spirit level, tape measure, pencil, a fine-tooth saw for corner miters, and a hammer or adhesive gun.
Use a miter box to cut the ends of the strips at a 45-degree angle to ensure a tight, seamless fit at both internal and external corners.
It is strongly recommended to install directly onto a sound, plastered wall. Adhesives may fail if applied over loose or textured wallpaper.
The kit focuses on the main dado rail strips; you may need to purchase or fashion separate end caps if your run does not terminate at a corner.
Check the wall for minor undulations; if the wall is bowed, use a flexible construction adhesive to bridge gaps and pin the strip until the glue sets.
Ensure the wood has been sanded smooth and a proper wood primer has been applied to seal the grain before applying your final color coat.
To install, ensure your walls are clean, dry, and flat. Mark your desired height—typically 900mm to 1000mm from the floor—using a laser level or chalk line. Use a high-strength wood adhesive or hidden panel pins to secure the strips to the wall. For long-term care, dust the mouldings regularly with a soft cloth. If the rail becomes scuffed or damaged, the wood can be lightly sanded and touched up with your original paint or stain to maintain its appearance.
