Can I use this to riddle live maggots?
Yes, it is excellent for separating maggots from sawdust or maize flour before adding them to your groundbait.
Is the material safe for food-grade bait?
Yes, the metal coating is inert and safe for use with standard fishing baits.
How do I store this to prevent damage?
Store it on top of your tackle box or bucket set. Avoid placing heavy leads or metal tools on top of the mesh to prevent it from warping.
Does it come with a bucket?
No, the Leeda Bait Riddle is sold as a standalone item.
Troubleshooting
Bait will not pass through the mesh
Your groundbait mix is likely too wet or sticky. Add small amounts of dry bait to the mix to improve flow.
The riddle slips off the bucket during use
Ensure you are using a standard 36cm diameter bucket; if the bucket rim is deformed, the riddle may not seat properly.
Rust spots appearing on the mesh
This occurs when damp bait is left on the unit. Scrub the affected area with a light abrasive pad and dry thoroughly after every use.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Durable metal-coated finish prevents rust
- Perfectly sized for common 36cm diameter buckets
- Significantly improves bait texture and distribution
- Lightweight and easy to store in tackle bags
Cons
- Strict size requirement limits use to specific bucket dimensions
- Metal mesh may be prone to denting if stored under heavy gear
- Requires manual cleaning to ensure no bait residue remains
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To use the Leeda Bait Riddle, simply align the rim of the riddle with the opening of your 36cm bucket. It should sit flush against the top edge. When finished with your session, it is vital to clean the riddle immediately. Use a stiff-bristled brush to remove any residual damp bait from the mesh, then rinse with fresh water. Allow the unit to dry completely before placing it back into your tackle bag to prevent the build-up of moisture, which can compromise the metal coating over time.
