FAQs

What is the primary use for Puraflex 25?

Puraflex 25 is primarily used for sealing expansion and dilation joints in construction, offering flexibility and adhesion to a wide range of building materials.

Can this sealant be painted over?

Once fully cured, Puraflex 25 can typically be painted over with most water-based and solvent-based paints. It's advisable to test compatibility first.

What is the shelf life of Puraflex 25?

Unopened cartridges typically have a shelf life of 12 months when stored in cool, dry conditions. Always check the batch date on the packaging.

Is Puraflex 25 suitable for exterior use?

Yes, Puraflex 25 is CE marked for both external and internal use (EXT-INT CC) and offers good weather resistance.

How long does it take to cure?

Curing time varies with temperature and humidity. Typically, it skins over in about 1-2 hours and fully cures within 24-48 hours for a 5mm bead.

What surfaces does Puraflex 25 adhere to?

It adheres well to concrete, ceramics, wood, metal, uPVC, aluminum, glass, and painted surfaces. Priming may be required for certain substrates.

Can I use this sealant underwater?

Puraflex 25 is not designed for continuous immersion in water and should not be used in applications where it will be permanently submerged.

Troubleshooting

Sealant not adhering properly

Ensure surfaces are thoroughly clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or contaminants. Use an appropriate primer if required for the substrate.

Sealant appears stringy or difficult to apply

Check the temperature conditions. The sealant may be too cold. Allow it to acclimatize to a suitable application temperature (typically 5°C to 30°C).

Poor surface finish after tooling

Tool off the bead immediately after application using a dampening tool (e.g., spatula dipped in soapy water) for a smooth finish.

Sealant is too stiff to extrude from cartridge

Ensure the cartridge has been stored correctly and is within its shelf life. Attempt to warm the cartridge slightly if in cold conditions, but avoid excessive heat.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent adhesion to a variety of building materials.
  • High flexibility allows for significant joint movement.
  • Durable and weather-resistant finish.
  • Complies with international quality and safety standards.
  • Suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

Cons

  • Requires proper surface preparation for optimal bond.
  • Curing time may vary based on environmental conditions.
  • Not suitable for applications requiring high-temperature resistance.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the joint is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and loose material. Prime porous surfaces if recommended by Everbuild for specific applications.
  2. Cut the nozzle to the desired bead size.
  3. Apply the sealant using a caulking gun, ensuring full contact with both joint surfaces.
  4. Tool off the bead immediately with a spatula or damp cloth to achieve a neat finish.

Compatibility:

Puraflex 25 adheres to most common building surfaces including concrete, brick, stone, metal, uPVC, aluminum, glass, wood, and painted surfaces. It is not recommended for direct contact with bitumen or asphalt, or for use in constantly immersed water situations.

Care:

Uncured sealant can be cleaned with a damp cloth or appropriate solvent (check manufacturer guidance). Cured sealant is best removed mechanically. Store unused cartridges in a cool, dry place.
