FAQs
Are the Salomon XT Quest shoes waterproof?
The XT Quest is designed with durable materials for outdoor use, but it does not feature a dedicated waterproof membrane unless specified by a particular model variant.
Are these suitable for wide feet?
The fit is generally standard; however, the structured nature of the chassis means they may feel more secure than mesh trainers. If you have very wide feet, you may want to try them on with your preferred hiking socks.
Can I use these for trail running?
While the XT Quest shares design DNA with trail footwear, it is primarily categorized as a hiking shoe focused on stability and support rather than the speed and flexibility required for trail running.
How should I clean the exterior?
Use a soft brush and water. If the shoes are leather-based, follow up with a leather-appropriate conditioner if necessary.
How often should I replace my hiking shoes?
Depending on the frequency of use and terrain harshness, most hikers find they need a replacement after 300-500 miles of use, or when the tread significantly wears down.
Troubleshooting
Feeling pressure points during first use
Adjust the lacing system to distribute tension more evenly across the midfoot and ensure you are using proper hiking socks.
Outsole debris buildup
Use a stiff-bristled brush to dislodge rocks and mud from the lug pattern after each hike to maintain maximum traction.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent durability on abrasive terrain
- High level of lateral support for stability
- Reliable traction on both wet and dry surfaces
- Versatile design suitable for varied trail conditions
Cons
- Requires a break-in period for maximum comfort
- Heavier than lightweight trail running shoes
- Limited ventilation compared to mesh-heavy models
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your Salomon XT Quest shoes remain in top condition, follow these steps:
- Break-in: Wear them indoors or on short walks initially to allow the material to conform to your feet.
- Cleaning: After muddy hikes, remove loose dirt with a soft brush. For deeper cleaning, use lukewarm water and a mild soap; avoid harsh detergents that may damage synthetic materials.
- Drying: Always air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, as extreme heat can degrade the adhesives and warp the midsole foam.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid keeping them in damp areas, which can lead to odors and material degradation.
