Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper setup and care will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Salomon XA PRO 3D V9 GORE-TEX shoes.
Setup
- Sizing: Always try on the shoes with the type of socks you intend to wear (e.g., technical running or hiking socks) to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. Salomon sizing is generally consistent, but individual foot shape can vary.
- Lacing: Utilize the Quicklace™ system for fast, customized tightening. Pull the lace tight evenly, then secure the excess lace into the lace pocket located on the tongue. This prevents snagging and ensures a clean look.
- Break-in: While durable, the shoes benefit from a short break-in period. Wear them for shorter walks or runs initially before embarking on long distances or technical trails to allow the materials to conform to your foot.
Compatibility
- Socks: For best performance, pair these shoes with moisture-wicking technical socks (synthetic or merino wool). Avoid cotton socks, which retain moisture and can lead to discomfort and blisters, especially with the GORE-TEX membrane.
- Terrain: Best suited for varied and technical trail environments. While they can handle short stretches of road, the aggressive outsole is primarily designed for off-road traction.
Care
- Cleaning: After use, remove loose dirt by gently brushing or rinsing the shoes with plain water. If needed, use a mild soap (like dish soap) and a soft brush or cloth to clean soiled areas. Do not use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Remove insoles to speed up drying. Do NOT machine wash, tumble dry, or place near direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, fireplaces), as extreme heat can damage the materials and adhesives, including the GORE-TEX membrane.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight when not in use. Avoid storing them in damp or confined spaces.
- Insole Care: Periodically remove and air out the insoles to maintain freshness.
