The Ecoscape Composite Decking Aluminium Joist (40mm x 40mm x 3600mm) is designed for professional builders and DIY enthusiasts seeking a high-performance, long-lasting sub-structure for composite decking projects. Its primary benefit is providing a robust, non-degradable foundation that eliminates the rot, warping, and splitting issues associated with traditional timber frames, though it does require specific metal-cutting tools and careful handling compared to softer wood materials.

Yes, aluminium is highly resistant to moisture and will not rot even when in contact with damp earth, though proper drainage is always recommended.
Yes, you should use a mitre saw with a blade suitable for cutting aluminium to achieve clean, safe edges.
Yes, these joists are designed to provide a universal sub-structure compatible with most standard composite decking board brands.
Use internal splice connectors or overlap them on a supporting post or pedestal to maintain structural integrity.
The joists are hidden underneath your decking boards, so they will not be exposed to direct sunlight during use.
Aluminium is non-combustible and offers superior fire resistance compared to timber joists.
Use a high-speed steel (HSS) drill bit and apply a small amount of cutting lubricant to reduce friction.
Ensure the joist is firmly clamped to the saw station; vibration is usually caused by insufficient clamping pressure.
Verify you are using self-drilling screws specifically designed for metal; standard wood screws will not hold correctly.
To install these joists, you will need a mitre saw equipped with a non-ferrous metal cutting blade. Ensure you measure your spans according to local building regulations, as aluminium may require different spacing than traditional timber. When fastening boards, use high-quality stainless steel or composite-decking-rated screws to prevent galvanic corrosion between the screw and the joist. While these joists do not require chemical treatments, it is good practice to deburr any cut ends to prevent injury and ensure a clean fit. Store the joists in a dry, covered area prior to installation to prevent surface marring or debris accumulation.
