Setup, Compatibility & Care
First-Time Use & Setup
- Adjust the Strap: Before wearing, ensure the adjustable buckle on the upper is set to a comfortable position. It should be snug enough to hold your foot securely without digging in.
- Break-in Period: Birkenstock footbeds are designed to mold to your feet. It's common for them to feel firm initially. Wear your clogs for short periods (e.g., an hour or two) for the first few days, gradually increasing wear time as the footbed adapts to your unique foot shape.
Compatibility
Your Boston Suede Clogs are a versatile addition to any casual wardrobe. They pair well with a variety of relaxed styles, from denim to linen and knitwear. They are generally considered a 'warm weather' shoe due to their open-back design and suede material, which is not ideal for rain or heavy moisture.
Product Care & Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your suede Boston clogs:
- Suede Protection: Before first wear and periodically thereafter, apply a quality suede protector spray to help repel water and stains.
- Cleaning Suede: For dirt or light scuffs, use a *suede brush* to gently lift dirt and restore the nap. Brush in one direction. For stubborn stains, a *suede eraser* can be effective. Avoid harsh scrubbing.
- Spot Cleaning: For minor spots, use a damp (not wet) cloth and a small amount of mild soap, dabbing gently. Blot dry immediately and allow to air dry completely away from direct heat.
- Avoid Water: Suede is not waterproof. Avoid wearing your clogs in heavy rain, puddles, or very wet conditions, as water can stain and damage the material.
- Drying: If your clogs get wet, stuff them loosely with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape. Let them air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Storage: Store your clogs in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, to prevent fading or material degradation.
- Footbed Care: The cork footbed can be wiped with a damp cloth if needed. To prevent odors, allow them to air out between wears.
