FAQs

How do I access my plants inside the cage?

There is no fixed door. To access your plants, simply unclip and lift the netting at the desired entry point. This allows for easy reach without complex openings.

What types of netting are available?

We offer bird netting with a 20mm x 20mm mesh and soft butterfly netting with a 7mm x 5mm mesh, available in black and green. A frame-only option is also available.

How tall and wide is the cage?

Once assembled with the uprights pushed 30cm into the ground, the cage stands 1.88m high and is 1.2m wide.

Do I need to use anchors?

Anchors are recommended for added stability, especially in areas prone to strong winds or if your soil is loose. However, they are not always essential, depending on your specific conditions.

Can I use my own netting with the frame?

Yes, a 'frame only' option is available. This allows you to use your own preferred cover, though it will not include pegs or clips.

What is the recommended depth for pushing the uprights into the soil?

We recommend pushing the upright poles approximately 30cm into the ground to ensure the structure is stable and secure.

Is assembly difficult?

No, assembly is designed to be straightforward. The aluminium poles push together easily with the UV-stabilised connectors, and the structure is secured with pegs.

Troubleshooting

Cage feels unstable

Ensure the upright poles are pushed at least 30cm into the soil. For added stability, especially in windy areas, consider using additional ground anchors (not included).

Netting is not staying securely attached

Check that all clips are fully engaged with the frame poles and netting. Ensure the steel pegs are firmly pushed into the ground around the base of the netting.

Pests are still entering the cage

Verify that the netting is securely fastened to the ground with no gaps. Smaller pests may require netting with a finer mesh size (e.g., 7mm x 5mm butterfly netting).

Aluminium poles are difficult to push into the soil

Moisten the soil slightly beforehand if it is very dry and hard. Use gentle but firm pressure. If the soil is exceptionally stony or compacted, consider an alternative location or preparing the ground slightly.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Provides effective protection against birds and pests.
  • Simple and quick to assemble with no complex tools required.
  • Durable construction with aluminium poles and UV-resistant connectors.
  • Versatile with multiple netting options or a frame-only choice.
  • Generous walk-in height allows for easy access and plant care.

Cons

  • No fixed door, requiring netting to be unclipped for access.
  • May require additional anchoring in very windy conditions or unstable soil.
  • Netting mesh sizes might not be suitable for all types of pests (e.g., smaller insects).
  • The frame-only option requires users to source and attach their own netting securely.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Unpack all components, identifying the aluminium poles, connectors, clips, and pegs.
  2. Assemble the frame by pushing the aluminium poles into the UV-stabilised connectors.
  3. Choose your desired location and push the upright poles approximately 30cm into the soil. Ensure the ground is firm enough to support the structure.
  4. Drape the chosen netting over the assembled frame.
  5. Use the provided clips to attach the netting to the frame poles.
  6. Secure the base of the netting to the ground using the steel pegs, ensuring a snug fit to prevent pests from entering.

Compatibility:

  • The cages are designed to work with the netting options provided by Gardening Naturally. The frame-only option allows for compatibility with other suitable garden netting.
  • Suitable for protecting fruit bushes, young trees, and various vegetables.
  • Can be used on most garden soil types, though stability can be enhanced with additional anchoring.

Care:

  • Clean the aluminium poles and connectors with a damp cloth as needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspect netting periodically for tears or damage and repair or replace as necessary.
  • During off-season, the cage can be dismantled for storage. Ensure all parts are dry before storing to prevent corrosion or mould.
