Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Lacing: Ensure the boots are laced securely but not overly tight. Start from the bottom and work your way up, using the eyelets to customize tension. The padded ankle collar should fit snugly without restricting circulation.
- Initial Wear: Wear the boots for short periods around the house or on short walks before embarking on a long hike. This helps to break them in and adapt them to your foot shape.
- Socks: Always wear appropriate hiking socks, preferably moisture-wicking synthetic or merino wool, to optimize comfort and breathability and prevent blisters.
Compatibility
These boots are designed to pair seamlessly with standard hiking attire and gear:
- Hiking Socks: Essential for comfort, moisture management, and blister prevention.
- Gaiters: For additional protection against debris, water, and snow in challenging conditions.
- Waterproof Trousers: To provide comprehensive weather protection when worn over the boot collar.
Care
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in muddy conditions, brush off loose dirt with a soft brush. For stubborn dirt, use lukewarm water and a specialized boot cleaner or mild soap. Avoid harsh detergents.
- Drying: Allow boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Remove insoles and loosen laces to promote airflow. Do not dry near direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, fireplaces), as this can damage materials and adhesives.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: Over time, the external waterproofing treatment may diminish. Reapply a suitable waterproofing spray or wax designed for leather/textile hiking boots to maintain protection. Follow the product instructions carefully.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
