These Forgefix General Purpose Pozi Compatible Screws with Countersunk heads are zinc plated for increased durability. They are an extremely popular general purpose screw, and suitable for use in and with many materials. APPLICATION:Ideal for use in many ironmongery, electrical and plumbing applications. Can be used with various screw cover caps. Zinc coatings prevent oxidation of the protected metal to create a longer lasting finish. It does this by forming a barrier and by acting as a sacrificial anode if this barrier is damaged. Zinc oxide is a fine white dust that (in contrast to iron oxide) does not trigger a breakdown of the substrates surface integrity as it is formed. The zinc oxide, if left intact, can act as a barrier to further oxidation, in a way similar to the protection afforded to aluminium and stainless steels by their oxide layers. The Pozidriv screw is similar in appearance to the classic Phillips cross-head, but in fact is very different. The Pozidriv has four additional points of contact, and does not have the rounded corners that the Phillips screw drive has. The biggest advantage it offers is that, when used with the correct tooling in good condition, it does not cam out, allowing great torque to be applied. The Pozidriv screw can easily be distinguished by a line embossed in the screw head at 45 to the slots for the driver. The countersunk head is designed to sink flush with substrates to leave a smooth surface finish. They have twin threads, which enable an easy start when driving. Imperial Size > MetricNo.4 = 3.0mm, No.6 = 3.5mm, No.7 = 3.9mmNo.8= 4.0mm, No.10 = 5.0mm, No.12 = 6.0mm
This guide is for anyone using Forgefix General Purpose Pozi Compatible Screws. These screws are designed for a wide range of applications, offering ease of use and durability. Troubleshooting
Screw is difficult to start.
Ensure you're using the correct size and type of screw. Pre-drill a pilot hole if necessary.
Screw head is stripping.
Use the correct size Pozi-drive screwdriver. Apply firm, even pressure. If the issue persists, consider a different screw size.
Screw is not flush.
Ensure the countersunk head is fully seated. If not, check that the pilot hole is the correct size or that the screw is not over-tightened.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Easy to start and drive due to the twin thread.
The countersunk head allows for a flush finish.
Compatible with a wide range of materials including softwoods, hardwoods, chipboards & fibreboards.
Zinc plating increases durability and protects against corrosion.
Wax coating aids in smoother insertion.
Cons
Requires the correct size and type of screwdriver for optimal performance.
May require pilot holes in some harder materials.
Zinc plating can be damaged if the screw is over-tightened.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Selection: Choose the correct screw size and length based on the material and application.
Pilot Holes: For hardwoods or dense materials, pre-drilling pilot holes is recommended to prevent splitting.
Driving: Use a Pozi-drive screwdriver that fits the screw head properly. Apply steady pressure while driving the screw.
Care: Avoid over-tightening the screws, as this can damage the material or strip the threads. For outdoor use, consider a sealant around the screw head to further protect against moisture.
