FAQs

What is the lifespan of the NZXT F140 RGB Core fan?

The fan features a Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) with a specified Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) of 60,000 hours, indicating a long operational lifespan under normal conditions.

Can I control the RGB lighting without NZXT CAM software?

Yes, if your motherboard has a compatible 4-pin RGB header (12V), you can control the lighting using your motherboard's native RGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, Gigabyte RGB Fusion).

What is the difference between this fan and a 120mm fan?

The F140 RGB Core is a 140mm fan, meaning it has a larger blade diameter and surface area than a 120mm fan. This generally allows it to move more air at similar or lower RPMs, and its higher static pressure is beneficial for dense radiators.

Does this fan come with a fan controller?

No, this product listing is for a single fan (Quantity per pack: 1 pc(s)). It includes mounting screws but does not come with a separate fan controller. RGB and PWM control are managed through your motherboard or an optional NZXT RGB controller.

What is the maximum airflow and static pressure?

The fan provides a maximum airflow of 90.79 CFM (cubic feet per minute) and a maximum air pressure of 3.22 mmH2O.

How do I adjust the fan speed?

Fan speed is adjusted via Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) using the 4-pin connector. You can set custom fan curves in your motherboard's BIOS or utilize software control if your motherboard supports it.

Troubleshooting

Fan does not spin

Verify the 4-pin PWM power cable is securely connected to the motherboard header. Check if the motherboard BIOS is set to enable fan control or if the fan header is functioning correctly. Ensure no obstructions are preventing blade rotation.

RGB lighting not working

Confirm the RGB cable is correctly connected to a compatible 4-pin RGB header (12V) on the motherboard or controller. Ensure RGB control software is installed and configured, and that the correct header is selected. Check that the header is powered.

Fan is noisy

Check fan speed settings in BIOS or software. If running at maximum RPM, consider reducing the speed for quieter operation, balancing it with thermal needs. Ensure no cables are contacting the fan blades. Verify the fan is securely mounted.

Fan speed is stuck at maximum

Ensure the 4-pin PWM connector is fully seated on the motherboard header. Check motherboard BIOS settings to confirm PWM mode is enabled for the relevant fan header. If using a controller, verify its settings.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Vibrant and customizable RGB lighting with individually addressable LEDs.
  • High static pressure is ideal for radiators and dense airflow scenarios.
  • Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) contributes to longevity and reduced noise over time.
  • PWM control allows for fine-tuning fan speeds to balance cooling and acoustics.
  • 140mm size moves more air than smaller fans.

Cons

  • Maximum noise level of 34.48 dB at full speed might be noticeable in quiet environments.
  • Focus on static pressure might mean slightly lower maximum airflow compared to pure airflow fans.
  • Requires a compatible motherboard header or controller for RGB and PWM functionality.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Mounting: Align the fan with the desired mounting points on your case or radiator. Use the included screws to secure it firmly. Ensure the airflow direction (indicated by arrows on the fan housing) matches your cooling plan.
  2. Power Connection: Connect the 4-pin PWM connector to an available CPU_FAN or SYS_FAN header on your motherboard. This allows for variable speed control.
  3. RGB Connection: Connect the RGB cable to a compatible 4-pin RGB header on your motherboard or an NZXT RGB controller. Refer to your motherboard or controller manual for specific pin layouts.

Compatibility:

  • Size: This is a 140mm fan, requiring 140mm mounting spaces in your PC case or on your radiator.
  • Motherboard Header: Requires a 4-pin PWM header for fan speed control and a 4-pin RGB header (12V) for lighting. Ensure your motherboard supports these.
  • Software: For advanced RGB customization, you may need NZXT CAM software or your motherboard's proprietary RGB control software.

Care:

  • Cleaning: Periodically dust the fan blades and housing. Use a soft, dry cloth or compressed air. For stubborn dust, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure the fan is completely dry before powering on the system.
  • Bearing Lubrication: Fluid Dynamic Bearings are self-lubricating and generally do not require user maintenance. Avoid disassembling the fan.
  • Check Connections: Regularly ensure power and RGB cables are securely connected.
