Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Proper preparation and application are key to achieving the best results and maximising the life of your treated timber.
1. Surface Preparation
- Clean the Wood: Ensure the timber surface is clean, dry, and free from loose dirt, mould, algae, or previous flaking coatings. Use a stiff brush or a suitable fungicidal wash if necessary. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
- Remove Loose Material: Brush off any loose wood fibres or debris to ensure proper adhesion and absorption.
- Protect Surroundings: Cover plants, paving, and other surfaces you don't want to treat with dust sheets or plastic sheeting.
2. Application
- Stir Thoroughly: Before and during use, stir the product well to ensure the colour and wax are evenly distributed.
- Test Area: Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first to check colour and adhesion, especially if treating different types of wood.
- Apply Evenly: Use a brush or suitable sprayer to apply a generous, even coat, working along the grain of the wood. Avoid applying too thickly, which can lead to runs.
- Multiple Coats: For deeper colour or enhanced protection, a second coat can be applied after the first has dried (typically 2-4 hours). Always allow adequate drying time between coats.
3. Compatibility
- Rough-Sawn Timber: This product is specifically designed for rough-sawn timber, including garden sheds, fences, trellises, and pergolas.
- Not for Smooth Wood: It is generally not recommended for smooth, planed timber as the wax enrichment and absorption characteristics may not perform optimally, potentially leading to uneven finish or reduced adherence.
4. Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning Treated Surfaces: To maintain the appearance, gently clean treated surfaces annually with a soft brush and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or high-pressure washers, which can damage the treated layer.
- Reapplication: While the product extends wood life, periodic reapplication will be necessary to maintain optimal protection and colour vibrancy. > Info needed: [Specific reapplication frequency recommendation]
